Nemacolin

Pete Dye golf and five-star toys on a Laurel Highlands estate that does everything.

The place

Nemacolin is the Laurel Highlands' over-the-top estate resort, and its golf carries real weight: Mystic Rock, the Pete Dye brute that hosted the PGA Tour's 84 Lumber Classic, and Shepherd's Rock, its more playable Dye companion. Around the golf, the resort piles on toys — a shooting academy, off-road driving, a casino, a serious spa and a deep dining lineup — so the itinerary never has a dead hour. Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater sits minutes away for the one cultural detour every crew secretly enjoys. It is the treat-yourself entry of the Mid-Atlantic.

Why it wins

Two Pete Dye courses — one a former PGA Tour venue — attached to the most amenity-stacked resort in the Mid-Atlantic: shooting grounds, off-road courses, a casino and serious dining. The splurge trip that keeps every hour booked.

Booking notes

Book golf, lodging and activity slots together — clays and off-road sessions sell out on weekends. Lodging tiers run from the grand Chateau to the golf-side boutique hotel; pick by budget and ask the concierge to price both.
