Inverness, Nova Scotia

Cabot Cape Breton

True links golf on Canada's wild Atlantic coast — Cliffs, Links and lobster at the end of the road.

The place

Cabot turned the old coal town of Inverness into a world golf destination. Cabot Links, Rod Whitman's design along the harbor, brought true links golf to Canada; Cabot Cliffs, the Coore & Crenshaw follow-up on the headlands, vaulted straight to the top of the country's rankings — its clifftop par-3 16th is one of the most photographed holes on earth. The Nest, a ten-hole par-3 course on the high ground, settles the evening bets. The town is walkable, the lobster is off the boat, and the sunsets over the Gulf of St. Lawrence end every day like a curtain call.

The 5-day plan

  1. 1

    The journey in

AM Fly into Halifax and drive three hours up Cape Breton — travel day, and the scenery earns it.

PM Check in above the links, sunset Nest loop, lobster dinner in town.

  2. 2

    Cabot Links

AM The harborside links on foot with caddies.

PM Beach walk or a town wander; chowder and drinks at the lodge.

  3. 3

    Cabot Cliffs (36 optional)

AM The Coore & Crenshaw headliner — save battery for the 16th.

PM Diehards replay the Links; others take the firepits. Big dinner overlooking the water.

  4. 4

    Cliffs rematch — the Cup

AM The team match on the Cliffs — the ocean holes will decide it.

PM Trophy lobster feast, cigars on the deck, last sunset over the gulf.

  5. 5

Dawn nine & the drive out

AM A final Nest loop at first light, then the drive to Halifax for the flight home — travel day.

Why it wins

Two of the best modern courses on the continent — including the Coore & Crenshaw clifftop masterpiece ranked at the top of Canadian golf — in a tiny fishing town where everything is a walk from the lodge. Remote enough to feel earned.

Booking notes

International trip — budget includes airfare; most crews fly into Halifax and drive about three hours, with Sydney the closer regional option. The season is short and summer books far ahead — reserve lodging and tee times together through Cabot. Both big courses walk with caddies; pack for wind.
